The Whitehall School District board voted to approve two resolutions that would allow the district to receive tax receipts directly into district accounts and enter a County Treasurer agreement to define responsibilities with county officials. Supporters said the change would improve real‑time reconciliation and make internal corrections simpler than the current month‑lag process with the county holding and disbursing funds.
"We would request our tax dollars as one lump sum from the county, put them in our own accounts where we're investing them for interest and then distribute them to ourselves," Mr. Slater said, describing how the new model would reduce retroactive journal entries required under the current arrangement.
Mr. Slater cited a recent OPI audit that revealed $14,000 of funds the state had failed to allocate to the district in a prior year; resolving that required retroactive coding and coordination with the county. Board members moved and approved the school funds investment resolution and the County Treasurer agreement by voice votes. Mr. Slater said any operational change would be effective at the start of the next fiscal year (July 1).
