Council authorizes president, solicitor to notify Mifflin Fire Department there is no workers’ comp coverage

Council approved a formal motion instructing President Randy Foose, assisted by the borough solicitor, to notify the Mifflin volunteer fire department that the borough carries no workers’ compensation or liability coverage for the department and to state whether the borough intends to keep workers’ compensation deactivated. "Only a social group can be created to handle any remaining Fire Department affairs and liquidate assets," the motion states, and it passed with an affirmative vote from council members present.

The motion followed testimony from a visitor who said bank accounts were frozen and audits were underway. Joseph Kramer moved the action and Joseph Long seconded; council members emphasized the solicitor’s guidance that no one should be allowed in the FD building while legal and insurance questions remain unresolved. No immediate plan to reactivate the department or to commit borough funds was approved.
