Special education update: RTC opening delayed; new Life Skills classroom to open at A.C. Houghton

Special education coordinator Marissa Turner informed the board that the planned Residential Treatment Center (RTC) opening in Boardman has been delayed; as a result, the teaching position associated with that placement will not be filled at this time. Turner also reported that A.C. Houghton Elementary will begin a new Life Skills classroom to serve students in grades K–6, and that this grade-level update will be submitted to ODE as required.
The item was presented as an operational update; no board action was recorded on Aug. 11, 2025, but the staffing and classroom changes were noted for administrative follow-up and ODE notification.
