Britton-Hecla board accepts business manager resignation, hires successor and reassigns staff

President Troy Knecht called a special meeting of the Britton-Hecla School District 45-4 Board of Education to order at 3:00 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2026; Superintendent Steve Benson was present. After a brief procedural agenda, the board returned from an executive session on personnel and took three personnel actions.
Board member Hawkinson moved and Board member Vietor seconded a motion "to accept the resignation of Shannon Wegleitner as Business Manager." All voted aye and the motion carried. Later, Board member Zuehlke moved and Board member Grupe seconded to hire Kyla Kriese as Business Manager; that motion also passed unanimously. Finally, Board member Hawkinson moved and Board member Zuehlke seconded to hire Shannon Wegleitner as Business Office Assistant; the board again voted unanimously to approve the hire.
The personnel motions followed an executive session the board held under SDCL 1-25-2(1) for personnel matters. The board recorded no dissenting votes on the personnel actions. The board set its next regular meeting for Monday, Sept. 14, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Britton-Hecla Board Room and adjourned the special meeting at 3:21 p.m.
