Storey County honors fourth-grader Grady Armstrong for U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree role

The Storey County Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 20 unanimously adopted Resolution 26-814 commending Grady Armstrong, a fourth-grade student at Hugh Gallagher Elementary School in Virginia City, for being selected to present his speech at the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting in Washington, D.C.

Lisa (staff) read the resolution and invited Armstrong and his family forward for a plaque and photographs. Brent Armstrong, Grady—s father, presented the commissioners with a commemorative challenge coin and said, “I wanted to give you something which is to me very special to thank you over all the support of the journey um throughout the state and the lighting and everything.” Todd Tuttle, director of tourism, added that Grady later spoke at the governor—s conference on tourism and made a favorable impression on visitors in Washington and at events in Las Vegas.

The board—s proclamation recounts that Grady represented his community and the state of Nevada and praised his leadership and character. The board—s action was purely ceremonial; no policy decision was attached to the resolution.
