The board approved the 2024–26 classified OSBA memorandum of agreement (MOA) after staff explained the need to compensate a reassigned staff member for bilingual translation and interpretation duties.
Reading from the proposed agreement, the presenter said: "an employee who accepts a bilingual translation and interpretation assignment shall receive an additional $140 per hour on their hourly wage per semester while assigned." Board members discussed and corrected inconsistent wording in the document (some pages used "MOU" vs "MOA") prior to the vote.
Why it matters: The extra-duty pay establishes compensation for work beyond an employee’s job description to support newly arriving monolingual students and to provide ELL/interpretation services. The MOA standardizes the arrangement and the rate for the district.
What’s next: The MOA was approved by motion and will be implemented per the agreement; staff said they will correct the document language before final signatures.
