Administrators briefed the board on construction and consolidation updates and on the recently acquired Train Building. State Road staff and teachers accessed the building for setup and cleaning; administrators said the building will be ready for school staff with remaining work (gyms, finishing touches) scheduled for the coming months.
At Hogan Elementary, crews are making progress on the geothermal laterals, parking pad and roof trusses; administrators reported interior work will follow and final furniture selections are being finalized. The district said it has new furniture to deploy and will repurpose the best of the inventory from Emerson/Spence.
On the Train Building, staff outlined initial plans: moving district offices and operations functions, inventorying and redistributing furniture to schools and community partners, and holding an auction for surplus items; administrators said most immediate costs can be absorbed in the regular capital/operations budget and that no referendum is required to begin these initial uses. The board asked for publicly accessible information and a standing facilities workshop to plan long-term facility needs and to assess whether future referendums will be required for larger capital projects.
The board discussed timing and the interplay between selling or repurposing older buildings (for example Lincoln) and moving operations to Train Building space; administrators said proceeds from sales and reduced overhead will be considered as part of long-term financial planning.
