Business manager outlines summer capital, tech and food-service upgrades
Summary
Business Manager Christy Lens told the board the district completed multiple smaller capital projects over the summer — hot-water heater replacement at Oak Flat, brick repointing at the middle school and Mount Rock Elementary, AV upgrades, security-camera installs and a new middle-school cold bar — paid largely from the general fund assigned for capital projects.

Christy Lens, identified in the meeting as the district business manager, gave the board an overview of summer work designed to maintain buildings and operations ahead of the school year. She said the Oak Flat Elementary hot-water heater replacement was completed by Lobar Associates and funded from the district’s general fund assigned fund balance for capital projects. "This was completed by Lobar Associates and the payment from this project came from our general fund assigned fund balance for capital projects," Lens said.
Lens described brick repointing that began Aug. 5 at the middle school (outside the 8th-grade hallway and art room) and at Mount Rock Elementary; she said noisy work was scheduled to avoid student-impacted areas. She also said the district is in planning with Mccclure to convert the middle-school boilers from oil to propane, adding tanks and running new lines to support the conversion.
Technology projects included a new sound system at Oak Flat and replacement of light relays and control boards at the middle school, completed or partly completed by AV Solutions. "We replaced the sound system at Oak Flat Elementary," Lens said, adding that much of the technology work is paid from the capital projects assigned fund balance. She also reported ongoing security-camera replacement and CAT‑6 cabling at the district office (vendor: CurBte).
On food service, Lens said dishwashers were installed at Oak Flat and the middle school (paid from the cafeteria fund) and a new "cold bar" — a sub/salad station that can produce reimbursable meals when paired with appropriate sides — is scheduled for delivery on Aug. 19. The presentation closed with routine grounds and custodial updates and a note that the stadium press-box project remains under evaluation. "Every year our custodial staff does the summer annual deep cleaning and our buildings are always beautiful and ready for our staff and students to come back," Lens told the board.
