Board approves FY26 budget amendment and amends appropriations

During a noticed public hearing the board considered a FY26 budget amendment that aggregated several departmental requests and additional revenue items. Cheryl (staff) summarized the requests: the correctional center requested $21,345 for retiree payouts (accumulated vacation and sick leave), $200,000 for housing inmates in other counties and $15,000 for inmate medical and prescriptions; the sheriff requested about $58,560 for a replacement vehicle and upfitting after several accidents; the county also sought $7,000 tied to the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau grant and $15,640 related to an increase in a licensing agreement; overall additional revenue of about $65,560 was expected and the amendment totaled roughly $317,545 before revenue adjustments.

There were no public questions during the hearing. The board voted to close the public hearing and approved the budget amendment. Staff then moved to amend appropriations to give legal spending authority for the newly authorized appropriations; the board moved, seconded and approved the appropriations resolution.

The actions were procedural budget-management steps required under county code to align spending authority with the approved amendment. No further budget items were added at the meeting.
