Board approves RFP to sell county property while a supervisor seeks briefing on allegations at local provider

County staff presented an RFP to solicit realtors to market the former redemption center and nearby lots; the intent is to send the RFP to at least three local brokerages and then return with resolutions to dispose of the land once offers are received.

During discussion, Supervisor Tom Broker said he had read "a troubling article" alleging that some donated money intended for resident services at a local provider was used instead for office furniture and supplies. Broker said he was not naming individuals but asked for a briefing from the local nonprofit (referred to in the meeting as 'Imagine the Possibilities') so the board could better understand whether donated funds were being used according to donors' intent. "I would like somebody from imagine the possibilities to come here and walk us through this," Broker said. Board members agreed the sale of county property could proceed, but several said they wanted assurance that service funds would be distributed and used appropriately and noted the county should not transfer property proceeds until oversight or clarification was provided if warranted.

The board moved and approved the RFP to hire a realtor; the motion was seconded and recorded as approved. Members said they would follow up to request a briefing from the provider and to determine whether any proceeds or donated funds require special handling.
