Netflix plans major shoot on Shelter Island, board discusses staging, parking and safety deposit

Representatives for a Netflix production, identified in the meeting as "Women Like Us," described a multi-week shoot centered on Shelter Island. Brian Ferguson, the location manager, said the project would use the Pidwin Hotel for most days and film on Crescent Beach on Sept. 25 and 26. "I am the location manager for the Netflix project Women Like Us. It is a film that's basically a girls trip movie about these four women who... end up coming to Shelter Island," Ferguson told the board, listing principal cast members and saying the production planned on-site staging, hotel buyouts and intermediary staging at neighboring properties.

Ferguson said the crew footprint will be large and will require coordination with ferry operators, local hotels and auxiliary staging areas. He described plans for drone photography (permits for the operator to be provided later), water safety personnel for beach and paddle-board scenes and a possible publicity shoot on Sept. 19. Town staff and the police chief raised operational and fiscal concernsnotably parking for camper/truck "star vehicles," marine patrol staffing for water days, and a deposit to cover town costs. The chief said the town had discussed taking a $10,000 advance and was likely to seek a larger deposit once staffing needs were clarified: "I probably would consider bumping that number up to probably 15," he said.

Board members and highway staff outlined staging alternatives (Pearlman property, Sunset Beach buyout, Camp Konopet) and requested a formal schedule, site maps, and detailed marine-safety plans before approving final permits. Ferguson said he would provide drone-operator permits, daily schedules and more precise parking plans after further technical scouting and meetings with police and highway staff. The board indicated willingness to charge for town staffing and to require reimbursement for overtime or additional on-site coordination.
