The Big Spring School District announced the appointment of Dane Collier as a school police officer during the Oct. 20 meeting.
Administration said the appointment is authorized by a court order dated Oct. 2, 2025, for Car County and noted the district currently has three officers in buildings with a fourth in process. "This is the oath of office," the administration stated when announcing the appointment of Dane Collier; board members noted officers were present in several buildings that week and were building relationships with students.
The board expressed support for having officers on site to provide safety and relationship-building; the superintendent and administration will continue to oversee school safety staffing and any related policies.
