Board members pressed administration on the high‑school pool's nonfunctioning UV light during the Oct. 6 meeting. Mrs. Lance said the UV system is currently not working and that a replacement would reduce the district's chemical use for pool maintenance.
A board member asked whether replacing the UV light now would improve water safety for the upcoming swim season. "Yes, that's correct," said Dr. Bronte, adding that once the UV system is functioning it will reduce chemical needs. Staff noted a prior master-plan entry that listed roughly $32,000 for the item but emphasized that the figure may be outdated and that administration will obtain current pricing and bring a recommendation back to the full board.
Board members raised follow-up questions about whether the whole system needs replacement versus replacing the lamp or canister. Administration said the team will determine the exact failure mode, obtain cost comparisons (lamp replacement vs. full upgrade) and return with specifics. The board also asked for a consolidated list of deficiencies so it can prioritize repairs across buildings.
Administration told the committee the replacement would be handled administratively if costs allow, and that final approval would be sought at the full-board level when financial specifics are ready.
