Mrs. Lance, the district presenter, told the Big Spring School District board on Oct. 6 that staff reviewed the master long-range capital maintenance plan and identified projects for summer 2026, and that most items remain at the preliminary-planning stage while administration obtains updated pricing.
The list of priorities includes replacing or relocating the stadium press box (options previously shown include replacing the visitor-side press box or moving it to the home side), replacing a nonfunctioning UV disinfection light at the high-school pool to reduce chemical costs, upgrading decade-old security cameras, installing light relays and a control board in the middle-school auditorium, replacing the Oakfoot Elementary commons/gym sound system, repointing brick at Mount Rock and the middle-school eighth-grade hallway, replacing hot water heaters (including a proposed on-demand system at Oak Flat), installing an adaptive playground for students in the district's multiple-disability-support classroom, replacing intercom speakers at Mount Rock and Oak Flat, and upgrading Cat6 cabling in the district administration building.
"We are in the preliminary stages of planning and as we continue down in the upcoming months our next step would be to get current pricing for each of these projects," Mrs. Lance said during the presentation.
Board members asked for more detail on specific items and asked administration to return with cost estimates. On the pool UV light, administration noted a prior master-plan line item and said updated pricing is required before the board makes any commitment. The administration also committed to compiling a list of current deficiencies and items needing future attention to help the board prioritize work.
The administration said no motion was required at the committee meeting; when pricing is available, staff will present the recommended projects to the full board for formal approval.
