Superintendent Erick Cummings reported at the Jan. 19 Towanda Area School District meeting that Pennsylvania is changing teaching certifications so that credentials listed as PK‑4 will be extended to PK‑6. Board member Brooks Greenland asked how the Pennsylvania Department of Education will honor that change; Cummings stated the certification change is effective immediately.
Cummings also told the board the district is implementing Tier II interventions at the primary school and said he is "anxious to see the impact" (as recorded in the minutes). He additionally recognized Coach Bill Sexton’s reported total of 768 wins in Pennsylvania, and noted January is School Board Appreciation Month and paid tribute to outgoing director Evelyn Sherburne’s more than 18 years of service.
