Board hears summer facilities work: gym floor, HVAC diagnostics, cameras and FFA barn fiber

District staff summarized summer facilities projects including M High gym refinishing, locker-room access changes, concrete safety repairs, HVAC vendor contracting for diagnostics, camera upgrades and fiber/electrical work at the FFA barn (phase work due Oct. 15).
Mr. Gains, the district facilities presenter, summarized a broad set of summer capital and maintenance projects completed or underway across district sites.
Among highlights, the M High gym floor was stripped, repainted and refinished; locker-room circulation was altered by adding five doorways to separate visitor/official access; three large concrete walk areas were replaced for safety; and the district contracted a Spokane firm for preventive maintenance and diagnostics on complex HVAC equipment. “It looks like a million bucks,” Mr. Gains said of the gym refinishing.
Staff also reported camera upgrades across sites, irrigation work and refreshed parking/paint lines on three lots, plus trenching and fiber installation to the FFA barn to support two interior and two exterior cameras. The electrical phase for outlets and lighting at the barn is under contract with an Oct. 15 deadline. Board members asked about gate control and parking design; staff said the large gate will be for district-employee access only while a separate combo-locked gate will allow controlled barn access for events.
No capital requests were voted on at the meeting; staff framed some future projects as budget-dependent.
