The Solon Springs School District's athletic director updated the board on fall sports, registration and staffing at the board meeting.
"They started practice way back on the 4th," the athletic director said, noting football scrimmages at Prairie Farm and Clear Lake and that the first home football game will be in early September. Cross country teams began practice; the district will host the cross country championship meet on Oct. 15 at Hidden Greens.
The district is using a new online registration platform (Bound) for fall athletics. The athletics report said many families registered successfully at the fall-sports meeting but some struggled with the process, especially when uploading physicals. "I think the nice thing with this is I emailed the coaches and said, you should be able to check your rosters," the athletic director said, describing improved roster visibility for coaches.
An applicant for the assistant football position, identified as Shane Cry, was mentioned and expected to be considered for approval. The board also discussed logistical support for the Merz (Mertz) Rookie golf scramble on Sept. 19 at Hidden Greens and volunteer coordination for transporting chairs and setting up at the event.
Board members asked for a short task list of the school's responsibilities to ensure adequate support for events and the athletic program.
