Resident presses commissioners for clarity on proposed data‑center rules

A Lincoln County resident pressed commissioners on how the public can learn who has expressed interest in a rumored 'hyperscale' data center and when the county's expanded data‑center rules would be posted for review.

"I'm Diane Hner from Persian, Nebraska," the speaker told the board during the public comment period, asking whether the facility being discussed was a "hyperscale" building and how citizens could find who had approached the county. Commissioners and staff responded that private economic development groups (Devco) typically field expressions of interest and that the county is revising its baseline regulations and expects a public hearing soon to present the nine‑page draft additions to its data‑center rules.

Commissioners said community input collected at planning meetings will be reviewed by the planning commission and incorporated into a formal draft. One commissioner said the breadth of community-submitted suggestions was not new but that it takes time to interpret dense written comments and safely fold them into draft regulations. The board directed staff to continue edits and indicated the document would be discussed again at upcoming public hearings; a date in late August was mentioned during the exchange.

The discussion occurred during the board's public-comment period and did not include a formal motion. Commissioners recommended that interested residents contact Devco and watch for the county's public‑hearing notice and associated posted materials before the hearing.
