Board approves superintendent goals after failed amendment to remove READ Act reference

The board voted to approve the 2026–27 superintendent goals and accompanying rubric after a contentious amendment process. Director Moore moved to delete a reference to the READ Act from the goals, arguing the act contains contradictory language about "institutional racism." The motion to amend was seconded and discussed at length but failed on a roll-call vote in which Moore was recorded as the lone yes.

"this act basically hopes to eliminate institutional racism but then by its very own legis and I I know it's legislative action, negates its own stance by overlooking one or two groups of students," Director Moore said in support of his amendment. Superintendent Benty and several directors pushed back, noting the READ Act is state law and that removing it from the goals could interfere with required work and training. After the amendment failed, the board approved the superintendent goals and directed staff to provide midyear updates and a dashboard of progress toward measurable objectives.
