Board outlines timeline for courthouse PPE procurement, expects RFP in mid-June

Board members provided an update on the public–private educational and administrative (PPE) procurement process for courthouse needs. Two firms have presented conceptual plans to a stakeholder group (which included the sheriff, the Commonwealth's attorney and court clerks) and the committee expects to issue a request for proposals in mid-June.

The chair explained the committee intends to narrow responses to two or three finalists after the RFP and then present those finalists to the full board for decision; the board noted a court order imposes a timeline the county is striving to meet. According to the update, firms were asked to provide a deposit (the speaker described $5,000 as the baseline) to cover attorney-review fees for proposals; the deputy said unsuccessful proposers would be refunded after legal costs are deducted. The board also discussed possible grant opportunities to support architectural costs and the need to balance design wants with realistic budgets.

Committee members said some work may remain confidential at early concept stages at firms’ request, but the board pledged to provide public updates after the RFP phase and to post progress in the board packet.
