Public Works seeks public nominations for county ATV route map; Board OKs 30‑day comment window

Matt Paulson, Public Works director, asked the Board to approve a public submission process to nominate county road segments for a class‑4 ATV route designation and described draft outreach materials and a map. Paulson proposed a timeline that would allow staff to post the call for nominations, accept submissions for roughly 30 days and have a review committee evaluate proposals before returning recommendations to the Board by August 26.

"If we can approve a path by next meeting, July 8, if we can approve a path, and then staff can start working on that path and maybe allow 30 days for public comment," Paulson said. Commissioners discussed forming a small review committee that would include a commissioner, the sheriff (or designee) and public‑works staff; the sheriff said he would participate. Staff will refine evaluation criteria, prepare an online submission form with an optional map, and return the process for formal Board action at the next meeting.

The Board emphasized transparency and a process that lets residents nominate road segments while reserving staff review for safety, jurisdiction and land‑use concerns before any route is adopted.
