Towanda board approves personnel changes including custodian retirement and several new hires

The Towanda Area School District Board of Education on Aug. 19 approved a package of personnel actions that included retirements, resignations, new hires and supplemental contracts.
Superintendent Erick Cummings noted the upcoming retirement of custodian Dale Hitchcock, saying, "Mr. Cummings spoke about Dale Hitchcock’s retirement in October and his many valuable years of service to our district." The board approved Hitchcock's retirement effective Oct. 11, 2024, and accepted the resignation of Robert Phillips, ELA teacher and senior play advisor, effective Aug. 19, 2024. The board also recorded the resignation of Amanda Halliday (Aide I), effective Aug. 5, 2024.
On support-staff hiring, the board approved: Kristen Keyser as Cook’s Assistant (effective Aug. 7, 2024) at $16.27 per hour; Louise Slater as Aide II (effective Aug. 21, 2024) at $19.36 per hour; Katie Fluck as Aide II (effective Aug. 21, 2024) at $19.36 per hour; and Andrea Homet as Aide II (effective Aug. 21, 2024) at $19.36 per hour. It also approved a transfer of Kellie Donmoyer from Cook’s Assistant to Cook I at the high school (effective Aug. 21, 2024) at $20.18 per hour.
The board approved supplemental contracts including Brandon Allis as junior-high football coach (supplemental salary $2,926) and Deidre Crayton as assistant band director (supplemental salary $2,926). The personnel motion was made by Brooks Greenland, seconded by Evelyn Sherburne, and passed by voice vote, 7-0-0-2.
