The Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District board on Feb. 17 approved the second reading of several policy updates, including a new Policy 815.1 governing the use of generative artificial intelligence in education and a corresponding AI Implementation Guidelines attachment.
Also approved were revisions and additions covering exemptions from instruction (Policy 105.2), noncurriculum-related student-initiated groups (Policy 122.1), student use of cellular phones and digital devices (Policy 237), and a revised Policy 816 on district social media. Gerald Conn moved and David Tannehill seconded the approvals; all members present voted affirmatively.
Board discussion noted that Policy 237 (cellular-phone policy) may need further review to reflect new state mandates. The policies were approved as second readings and will be enacted according to normal district procedures.
