Parents ask Turkeyfoot Valley board to restore student to van, citing unsafe bus stop
Summary
Parents Shawn and Jen Wilt asked the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District board to return their child to the van route after the assigned bus stop on Route 523 requires a 9/10ths-mile walk on a blind curve with no sidewalks; a neighbor raised concerns about registered sex offenders in the area.

Shawn and Jen Wilt told the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District board on March 12 that a recent routing change placed their child on a school bus that stops on Route 523 at a blind curve, forcing the student to walk nearly a mile on a road without sidewalks.
"The child would have to walk 9/10ths of a mile on a road with no sidewalks," the Wilts said, asking the board to add the student back to the van route. Neighbor Ray Hardison added that he was concerned about "the number of registered sex offenders within that specific area" where the student would walk to the stop. Board members heard the comment during the recognition-of-visitors portion of the meeting but did not record a board decision on the spot.
The Wilts framed the request as a safety issue tied to both road conditions and neighborhood risk factors. The board did not take immediate action on the request during the meeting; the public record shows only that the concern was raised and heard by members present. Any further staff routing review, operational response or follow-up timeline was not specified in the meeting minutes.
