Plano ISD bond program moving: Haggard opens, CT center on track for October

Tony Pearson, Plano ISD's director of planning and new construction, gave an August update on the district's 2022 bond program, reporting that construction is active across campuses and that the district is "almost 4 years into what is a 5 year bond program." He listed completed turn-overs and near-term milestones: the new Haggard Middle School opened and hosted a rededication, a CT center at Almond Park is slated for substantial completion in October, and extensive renovation work at Williams High School has returned new facilities such as a kitchen, cafeteria, band hall and science wing to campus use.

Pearson described phased work at Plano Senior and Plano West, site demolitions turned over to the city, and infrastructure projects that support operations, including a transportation fueling station near Clark Stadium. "We're now almost 4 years into what is a 5 year bond program," Pearson said, and added the program is managing multiple phases at once, with some spaces already in use while other areas remain under construction. The presentation noted project-specific timing: a competition gym and locker areas targeted for October occupancy, a field house projected for completion in October, and finish work that will follow while students use portions of renovated campuses.

Trustees praised the contractor and planning teams and described campus visits that showed students using new facilities. President Lauren Tyra pushed back directly on circulating rumors about Haggard, saying "Haggard Middle School is a middle school. There are no secret plans to turn that into...a four year high school." The board heard no public speakers on the bond item. Pearson closed the presentation by summarizing three takeaways: the bond program is moving, the scale of work is significant across multiple campuses, and substantial work remains ahead.
