Stephens County commissioners approve seven rezoning and variance requests

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners approved seven rezoning and variance requests after brief public hearings and motions during the regular meeting.

The items included a request from Thomas and Brenda Herren (parcel 033075) to change zoning from Residential Single to Agricultural Residential for a property combination; two adjacent June’s Way parcels (044087A and 044087B) seeking rezoning from Commercial General to Commercial Industrial; a variance for parcel 0600084 to allow an additional principal structure to assist elderly family members; a 5‑acre change from Agricultural Intensive to Agricultural Residential to settle an estate (parcel 045046); and two property combination rezoning requests from Marvin Roach and Charles Smith (parcel 023160). Planning commission recommendations for all seven items were to approve the requested changes, and the board carried motions for approval by voice vote.

Tom Herren spoke in support of his rezoning request, saying he had purchased the property "a year and a half, two years ago" and had not realized it was zoned single residential. Steven Fleas explained the variance request for his parents’ health and the need to place an additional principal structure closer to family. Bradley Allrod said the rezoning he requested was to facilitate settlement of an estate.

Each motion to approve the items was made, seconded and carried by voice vote. No formal roll‑call tallies were provided in the meeting record.

The approvals complete the land‑use agenda for the evening; no further public hearings on these items were scheduled at the meeting.
