Board proclaims August 2026 Child Support Awareness Month

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 18 adopted a resolution proclaiming August 2026 as Child Support Awareness Month in the county.

Supervisor Moreno read the resolution and the board welcomed Mikayla Anthony, who introduced herself as leading the county’s child support department. Anthony said the department helps parents meet legal and financial responsibilities and works to increase access and reduce stigma. “Our role is to help parents meet their responsibilities while keeping every day they work to help parents support their children,” she said.

Board members thanked department staff for their work. The resolution notes the county’s local child support agency supported collections during federal fiscal year 2024–25 and cited statewide collections of approximately $2,500,000,000 last year and noted that 6,956 children were supported by the county’s collections. Supervisor Gibson said the department “works in the background and makes a huge difference” and the board expressed appreciation for the staff’s service.

There was no public commentary on the item; the board closed public comment and moved on to the next agenda item.
