Superintendent Haden Easkins reported the district's summer facilities work is progressing and flagged several unexpected repairs that will require attention and funding.
"It's nearly done," Easkins said of the high-school ventilation repair, adding that exterior painting and siding work begun after the school year are expected to finish by the end of July. She described tile-removal difficulties in the varsity gym and elementary lobby that require leveling work before new planks can be installed.
Easkins also said the district has an aging campus windmill that appears to be inoperable and is currently leaning; the installer has gone out of business and staff are exploring how to dismantle and disconnect it. She told the board that one of the elementary school's front-entry pillars is "going to cost about $8,000 for that repair," and that Groundworks has been engaged to perform the work. Easkins said she will review available camera footage to try to determine when the damage occurred.
The superintendent said trees damaged by wind will require trimming that necessitates temporary sprinkler shutdowns so a bucket truck can access the lawn, and she warned the public that lawns in front of the elementary school may not look good while the work proceeds. The board did not debate alternatives at length and accepted the updates as routine business.
