Emergency management audit in fieldwork; draft expected by end of May

Audit staff reported the Clarke County comprehensive emergency management audit is well into fieldwork and expected to move into analysis and reporting next month, with a draft anticipated by the end of May.

"Probably looking to wrap that up in the next week or two and we'll move on to our analysis and reporting phase probably starting in April and looking to have a draft end of May to discuss with the department and management," Gavin said. He added that because of a summer recess the committee will likely first review the audit in August after a 30-day Department of Management review period.

Staff described fieldwork activities as primarily interviews with liaison staff from cooperating departments and limited site visits to fire stations and equipment. The audit team said it expects to complete the audit work by the end of the fiscal year so the draft can be available for review and comment in the summer, then formally presented to the committee once timing aligns with the commission's schedule.

Committee members had no immediate questions at the time of the update and asked staff to continue the planned timeline.
