Commission adopts revised Prairie County road policy and fee schedule

At the Nov. 12 Prairie County meeting, the board voted to adopt Resolution 2610, which revises the county’s road policies and updates the road‑related fee schedule. Commissioner Develin moved to accept the resolution and Commissioner Tesy seconded; the motion passed unanimously as recorded in the meeting minutes.

The discussion before the vote included questions from residents about cattle guard ownership, written easements and maintenance responsibilities. County staff advised that if written easements exist on both sides of a cattle guard, the county will assume maintenance responsibility and that replaced cattle guards placed by county expenditure will become county property. Residents were advised to consult clerk and recorder records to confirm whether an easement runs with the land. The board emphasized that findings and policy language must be clear before applying the new fees and procedures across affected roads.
