The Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7 board approved appointments to address increased sports participation at multiple levels.
Administrators recommended hiring Nor Estrada to an assistant coach role at Central Middle School and naming Tegan Casey as an assistant wrestling coach. Staff noted that both the middle school and high school are seeing larger rosters and that OSAA's split-season and practice rules mean teams sometimes need additional adult supervisors. "Nor Estrada uh was chosen. And then assistant wrestling coach, uh we've lost our assistant wrestling coach and so uh Tegan Casey," a staff speaker said when presenting the personnel items.
Board members discussed that the Central season does not start until after the Christmas break and that practice locations and locker-room space added over the summer are helping accommodate larger rosters. The board moved and seconded the staffing approvals and carried them by voice vote.
Staff said they would monitor participation and, if necessary, bring additional staffing requests to the board for approval.
