Open Space Committee asks Cape Cod Commission to help finish town trail brochure

The Eastham Open Space Committee on Aug. 20 approved a plan to ask the Cape Cod Commission to produce town maps and help move a draft trail brochure to a near‑final prototype. Michelle Vion presented a multi‑page mockup with placeholder photos and maps and asked the committee for permission to solicit the commission’s assistance with mapping and layout.

"I went to the commission and they said they would be willing to do the maps. So, I kind of wanted permission from the committee to reach out to the commission to see if they'd be willing to assist us with getting to stage two," Vion said. The committee agreed the commission’s staff could help with maps and image sourcing, and discussed using a QR code and a hosted PDF so residents could download the brochure electronically.

Committee members said they prefer a large overview map showing all numbered trails, with local photos placed in each trail’s detail pages. Rob Young said the group should finalize maps and photos before focusing on fonts and color choices. The committee discussed printing a limited number of physical copies for distribution and linking a PDF on the town or committee web page for broader access.

Next steps: Vion will contact the Cape Cod Commission to request mapping support; Andrew Shear and other volunteers will help select and insert photographs for each trail area so the brochure can move to a prototype stage for final review.
