Staff: water-plant filter installed, generator expected in February; warming centers prepped for winter event

City staff briefed the council on several operational items in the Jan. 22 meeting's administration report.

Staff said the new filter has arrived and been installed at the water treatment plant and that drying beds are complete; the generator is expected to arrive in February and the plant's overall completion remains on schedule for June–July 2026. Staff said the water transmission main is in the design phase and that construction likely will begin after award and procurement, with an estimated completion in mid-2027 to early 2028 depending on materials and weather. Staff also said the animal shelter was briefly below capacity (three dogs and one cat) and that warming centers and shelters are prepped for an imminent winter weather event; residents were advised to contact the police department for shelter information.

Council asked clarifying questions about warming-center operations and the extent of overnight accommodations; staff said they would confirm details and publicize locations as needed. No council action or budget votes were taken on these items during the meeting.
