The Seaside School District board held a working-session review of superintendent advisory committees, confirming that advisory groups are meant to advise the superintendent and do not exercise the board's decision-making authority. Chair Shannon noted she does not sit on a standing committee because "the board chair meets with me once a month at least," and members discussed filling an opening on performance monitoring created by her role.
Board members traded preferences for committee placement, identifying a vacancy on the strategic and operational planning, budget development committee and on community stakeholder relations as Chris Quarter vacates a role. One member said, "I will speak for Sandre. She did want to stay on the community stakeholder relations because she really liked the work she was doing with the foundation." The board agreed to reach out individually to new members to schedule monthly standing meetings and to report committee-developed goals back to the full board for approval at the next regular meeting.
