The Sturgeon Bay School District board approved multiple personnel appointments on Aug. 19, including two special education teaching associates and a food service staff member.
Madison Star was approved to serve as a special education teaching associate at Sunrise Elementary for the 2026–27 school year; the motion passed with one abstention recorded. Administrators described Star as a Sturgeon Bay High School graduate with experience at the Door Child Development Center and noted she is pursuing a master’s in counseling. "A motion to approve Madison Star as a special education teacher associate at Sunrise Elementary School beginning with the 2026–2027 school year is recommended," the administration said.
The board also approved Denell McColaichek as a special education teacher associate at Sawyer Elementary for 2026–27; the motion was moved by Commissioner Cruz and seconded by Commissioner Meyer and carried. Separately, the board approved Sarah Olsen as a member of the food service team to replace Jackie Snow; administrators said Olsen will lead breakfast programs and serve lunch at the high school and middle school. "I can't think of a better person to serve breakfast," one board member said during the vote.
