Residents’ concerns addressed: July outage, telecom equipment and stadium fire explained

During the public comment portion of the July 15 meeting, Council Member Kathleen Bailey relayed information from Rocky Mountain Power explaining the July 12 outage and described wildfire‑protection breaker behavior that affected restoration times.

Bailey said the outage was caused by wildfire‑protection settings and that "breakers do not automatically reclose after a fault. Instead, trained troubleshooters must physically inspect the line before re‑energizing circuits to ensure wildfire risk is minimized," which explained staggered restoration across neighborhoods. Council Member Tessa Stitzer addressed social‑media concerns about a small utility box and confirmed the device was legitimately installed by telecommunications providers as a temporary generator system to maintain internet service during outages. Council members also noted recent fires near the old school property and said the stadium fire was caused by human activity, not electrical failure.

The Council did not take formal action on these items but recorded the explanations for the public record and encouraged continued vigilance around fire hazards.
