Council tables two abatements, approves corrective action plans for two properties

Council reviewed four tax abatement cases that include job and wage shortfalls compared to original abatement applications. Staff reported for 81 West Cam Drive there were 19 current jobs versus 31 projected, with a wage gap of about $587,983; 301 West Cam Drive had a larger job shortfall while 91 and 101 West Cam Drive included vacant space and smaller shortfalls.

Chair recommended tabling two items (81 and 301 West Cam) until staff and financial advisors could revisit abatement schedules and advise whether adjustments were appropriate. For the two properties with vacant space (91 and 101 West Cam Drive) the council agreed to proceed with corrective action plans and to honor the abatement for the 2026 pay 2027 schedule, with review for compliance in a year.

"Given there's not much where he can add in jobs in a corrective action plan, he can't force an employer to be able to add more. My suggestion would be is is to review with Financial Solutions Group to see if there's any alterations that need to be made to the abatement schedule based off the figures and employers that we have here," Chair said while proposing tabling two items for further review.

Council voted to table the two items and approved the other corrective plans, recording votes in favor for the approved items.
