Board approves tentative $24.53M budget, sets 47.29-mill real estate rate and adopts homestead exclusion

The Minersville Area Board of Education on May 22 approved a tentative General Fund budget for 2024–25 of $24,527,143 and directed that the budget be advertised and posted for public inspection for 30 days before final adoption.
On the same vote the board set the 2024–25 real estate tax rate at 47.29 mills. The board also voted to continue other existing levies, including $5 per capita School Code and Act 511 per-capita levies, a $5 Local Service Tax, a $200 occupation tax and the 1% realty transfer and 1% earned income tax (split 0.5% district/0.5% municipalities).
The board adopted a homestead/farmstead exclusion resolution that states: "Be It Resolved that Minersville Area School District implements the homestead-farmstead exclusion to take effective July 1, 2024. The fiscal 2024 exclusion amount is $236.63 for eligible property owners." The transcript notes 2,295 eligible property owners and records $541,526.82 in total tax reduction funds drawn from Pennsylvania gambling revenue (Sterling Act) as the source of the reduction.
Board members approved the tentative budget and tax actions by roll call; the motion to advertise the tentative budget was moved by Albert D. Marazas. The district will return for a final budget vote after the required public inspection period.
