Board hears enrollment uptick, Opportunity Center growth

Administrators reported a modest increase in district enrollment compared with last year and described how transfers and move-ins have balanced losses to homeschool and online options. "As you see in my report, we're up about 60 65 kids from this time last year," one administrator said, noting the district had about 102 incoming interdistrict transfers offset by roughly 105 departures to homeschool, online programs or other districts.

Board members and staff clarified that most Opportunity Center students are transfers from other schools inside the district rather than direct transfers from outside districts. One speaker described the center as a credit-recovery program that includes both in-person and online students in its count: "The only kids that go straight there are like moveins... it's not a transfer." The board discussed enrollment distribution, which sites were growing (including Almsville and the high school), and how transfer contracts are reviewed when students fall below thresholds.
