County schedules courthouse elevator modernization; elevator out of service Oct. 21–Nov. 19

Bourbon County officials and Otis Elevator confirmed plans on the timeline for a courthouse elevator modernization that will take the elevator out of service beginning Oct. 21 and extending through Nov. 19. "My name is Kyle George. I'm with Otis Elevator. I'll be the project manager for the modernization project on the elevator here," Kyle George said when he introduced the work and the contractor's approach. County staff and the contractor agreed to the dates after noting a judge's retirement reception earlier in the week.

George described the sequence and expected duration: "So, roughly about a month for these projects." He told officials they would receive one delivery of material — roughly eight pallets — and that elevator removal from service would begin when that material was on-site. The contractor said elevator-specific work is typically about 90% complete within the first two weeks, building-related work (fire alarm, electrical) would occupy much of the third week, and the fourth week was planned as contingency and time to schedule inspections. A third-party inspector will perform a final inspection, which Otis said typically takes two to three hours.
