Residents press commission for year-round RV and driveway storage allowances; petition opposes RV ban

Several residents addressed the commission during visitor comments, urging more permissive parking and storage rules. Sue Young said she would like "people to be able to stay in her camper parked in her driveway" and requested allowance for two specialized vehicles on her property. Tom Morthorst asked the commission to extend the 72-hour limit on boat storage in a driveway and said he would like the ability to store items year-round in his driveway.

A written petition submitted by resident Chris Press opposed prohibiting Recreational Vehicle parking in street yards and side yards in the R-2 and R-3 residential zones. The petition states: "I am opposed to prohibiting Recreational Vehicle parking in street yards and side yards in the R-2 and R-3 zones. Recreational Vehicle parking is currently allowed in those yards, all year in the R-2 zone under Article 111, section 11, paragraph B (15) (3) of the existing Village of Third Lake Zoning Ordinance." The petition included response totals for Sunshine Subdivision: 61 houses responded, 56 houses signed (84 resident signatures noted elsewhere in the submission) and a reported 62.92% of houses signed among those who responded.

Commissioners did not adopt any new rule at the meeting; the petition and public comments will be part of the record as the commission advances the draft ordinance to the Dec. 9 public hearing where these topics can be addressed formally.
