Dr. Crockett reported a strong start to the school year and highlighted academic gains: "For the seventh straight year, our academics in ELA has continued to climb year after year," he said, and added that district math performance also rose from last year.
He said the board will publish a full breakdown when the district report card is released. Dr. Crockett noted an upcoming centennial celebration starting Sept. 30 with weekend alumni events and a Friday-night tailgate on Oct. 2, and described a teacher volunteer initiative called "District 51 Cares" in which about 20 teachers signed up to do one-hour community service shifts during a professional-development day.
On athletics and student safety, Dr. Crockett urged caution because of high temperatures and said athletic trainers will make decisions about participation; he also commended the band for meeting its fundraising goal. On facilities, he reported the U Middle School gym floor repainting is complete, said a mechanical-engineer site visit is scheduled for the fieldhouse window project, and that lifts are being brought to campus to address high-up maintenance before the centennial. He named facilities staff Trevor Pulley and Brandon Sitten for their roles in recent work.
Dr. Crockett closed by inviting questions and noting that the district remains focused on student safety and academic achievement.
