District outlines professional learning priorities, confirms Act 48 compliance plan

Dr. Donnelly reviewed the district professional learning plan and the Act 48 compliance structure (building, department and district time). She told the committee that Act 48 requires a minimum of 180 hours of professional learning every five years and that the district organizes learning so educators can obtain required hours within-district while still encouraging external conferences.
Major PD priorities for 2026–27 include implementation support for middle-level CKLA (reading), a new middle-school science program aligned with SEAL standards, inclusive practices and MTSS tiers two and three. The district will provide coaching residencies for elementary teachers (reduced in number but with booster sessions), a new teacher academy, and asynchronous training options for required state modules.
