Teacher Kate Egan told the Northland Pines School District board that she took 15 students to Spain in June and “we brought 15 students back.” The presentation, given Aug. 17 during the regular board meeting, featured students Ava, Izzy and Jess describing stops in Madrid (La Plaza Mayor and a tapas dinner), Toledo, Segovia’s aqueduct and Salamanca’s historic university. The group also visited Barcelona and the Sagrada Família, and students said highlights included local culture, architecture and a coastal day on the Mediterranean.
Egan and the students noted a travel hiccup before the trip: when flights out of central Wisconsin were delayed, district staff arranged a last‑minute bus to Chicago so students could catch the international flight. Board members thanked the chaperones and district drivers, including Mr. Tilly and Mr. Foster, for arranging transportation. The board applauded the students after the presentation and the district said the experience supported cultural learning and fundraising efforts by families.
