During the public-comment portion of the Aug. 4 meeting several attendees criticized the board’s recent tax decision and urged caution in moving district reserves to capital accounts. One resident said the district should live within its means and accused the board of raising taxes while holding a multimillion-dollar surplus, calling the action "taxpayer robbery." The resident urged censure of named board officers and said he could not support those trustees in upcoming elections.
Another speaker encouraged the board to keep the surplus in the general fund to cover operating needs, asserting, “We have 5,179,338 or basically $5 million that you want to transfer to the capital improvement fund… Keep it in the general fund and because we we need it.” Trustees heard the comments and later amended a motion to delay the transfer until the auditor presents final audit results. No censure motion was introduced at the meeting.
