Board approves two‑year tentative agreement with Bus Drivers Chapter #6 with modest savings

The Board approved a tentative collective bargaining agreement with Bus Drivers Chapter #6 on May 19 that covers July 1, 2025–June 30, 2027 and includes several cost‑saving measures and operational changes.

Executive Director of Human Resources Jeannie Dwyer summarized the agreement, which preserves ratified terms but adds amended language intended to save about $5,400 over two years versus the previously denied ratification. Key components include step/column cost adjustments, clarified corrective action language, video‑surveillance limits on discipline, and a one‑year reduction in contract days for 2026–27 (171 and 174 student attendance days). Negotiators also agreed on practices to reduce overtime—using compensatory time and paid training by timesheet rather than full‑day pay for training on non‑work days.

Union representatives Louie Trio and Juan Sanchez explained the operational impact of flexible training and compensatory time. Trustees sought clarity on reopeners and triggers for renegotiation; Dwyer said parties intend to reopen negotiations in 2027 and that more definitive financial triggers could be discussed in future bargaining.

Trustee Erinn Miller moved to approve the agreement; Trustee Heather Jackson seconded. The motion passed 7–0. The district will implement the agreement and report outcomes to the Board.
