Construction update: asbestos abatement near completion; project remains under budget

Superintendent Francois provided a construction update to the board on Feb. 16. Asbestos abatement work is expected to be completed in early March, and crews have begun work in utility tunnels and the removal of galvanized plumbing in Section D. Francois said there is funding available to address additional asbestos "hot zone" areas and that doing so will not delay the construction timeline.
Francois reported that District staff and Nexus are working with the Village to obtain necessary permits to continue work; no ongoing noise complaints have been received. A finishing-fume smell reported earlier in the day was attributed to Theatre Department set building. The minutes state the project remains under budget and anticipate the bulk of the work in the discussed area will be completed this summer.
