Superintendent Francois told the board the District will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with weekly slides and interactive materials developed by Principal Foster and displayed on building video walls during the second semester; a slideshow will also be shared with families. Community member Karen Alexander, who previously spoke in support of the celebration, attended and expressed disappointment that multiple slides addressed the Constitution rather than focusing solely on the Declaration; she asked the District to replace those slides with Declaration-focused content.
Francois also publicly thanked the Honey Creek Civic Club for a $500 donation intended to help offset student lunch accounts in the negative. He provided a construction update: asbestos abatement is expected to finish in early March, crews have begun work in utility tunnels and removing galvanized plumbing in Section D, Nexus and the District are coordinating permit work with the Village, no continuing noise issues have been reported, and the project remains under budget with most work expected this summer. The minutes note a finishing-fume smell earlier in the day was attributed to Theatre Department set building.
