The Waterford Union High School Board approved Neola Volume 35-1 policy updates and school support organization policies at its Feb. 16 meeting. After the motion by Doug Schwartz and second by Dennis Purtell, the board discussed the implications of artificial intelligence for staff and students; no policy text on AI was adopted at the meeting, but the board was told a protocol and procedures handbook is in development.
Superintendent Francois reported that Associate Principal Peperkorn and the WUHS Innovation Team have researched AI use and produced an initial draft of the handbook. The superintendent said a near-final copy will be provided to the board for review. The minutes do not record specific prohibitions or permissions for AI use — only that guidelines are being developed and will be shared when closer to finalization.
