Board adopts Neola Act 57 updates; review of rescue-inhaler policy scheduled

The Board approved the Neola Special Update related to Act 57 on a unanimous vote on April 20, 2026. Doug Schwartz moved to adopt the revised policy changes and Dennis Purtell seconded; roll-call vote was all ayes.
Separately, Superintendent Dr. Francois presented proposed revisions to Neola Policy 5330 (Administration of Medication/Emergency Care) to include language permitting rescue inhalers (bronchodilators) on school premises at the request of the school nurse. Neola guidance notes that adopting the option requires a school plan approved by a physician, an advanced practice nurse prescriber, or a physician assistant; the Board will be asked to take action on the policy at its next regular meeting.
